Theorie und Methoden in der Materialkulturforschung: eine Einführung
This module is primarily designed for the students in their 1.Studienabschnitt (3rd and 4th semesters) from the design departments. Students from other departments are welcome to enroll if there is spare capacity.
The course is grounded in anthropological approaches to studying material cultures. Understanding how we engage with the material world is fundamental to understanding human cultures across time and space - for example, how we make meaning through making with the material, and how we construct our social worlds through living with things.
Whether focusing on historical, cross-cultural, contemporary or speculative material cultures, these approaches develop holistic, contextual and nuanced views of the dynamic relationship between the material and the social in human life. The study of material cultures allows for a deeper appreciation of the complexity and diversity of lived human experience in different time periods and different geographical places.

Praxis
Theorie und Praxis Materieller Kulturen: Design und Nachhaltigkeit
This course is designed to support students in their 2.Studienabschnitt (5th, 6th, 7th semesters) who are joining the greenlab project 'Re:Lokal - closing cycles' SS26. Other design students are welcome to join if there is spare capacity.
The format is a participatory seminar - we will explore different perspectives on design and urban sustainability through a range of sources and case studies, with students actively preparing presentations for the group each week.
The course will be held in English, with German translations offered wherever available.

Kunstgeschichte - Barock und 19. Jahrhundert
Das Seminar wird die Kunstgeschichte Roms untersuchen und das von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart. Der Veranstaltung ist eine Exkursion nach Rom vorgeschaltet, die vom 3. bis 9. März 2026 stattfinden wird. Die TeilnehmerInnen-Zahl ist auf 15 Studierende begrenzt.
