In the seminar, we will create a material table titled “Symbiosis as Discourse” for the exhibition Symbiotic Wood @Kunstgewerbemuseum , which will be on display from 28 June to 21 September 2025 as part of the Matter Festival 2025.

We will clarify the concept of symbiosis through excursions to locations such as the Berlin Forest, HNEE Eberswalde, and MPICI Potsdam, as well as selected literature from authors such as Lynn Margulis, James Lovelock, Rachel Carson, Jane Bennett, Anna Tsing, and Bruno Latour.

In collaboration with the participating artists, we will develop the concept and realization of the discoursive assemblage, considering the artworks displayed in the Kunstgewerbemuseum and the exhibition architecture.

This seminar runs concurrently with Prof. Dr. Karola Dierichs’s MoA Studio, “Revaluating the Forest.” Participants in the design course are warmly invited and encouraged to engage with the theme of symbiosis as a discourse.

The course language will be English / German / Bilingual, depending on the participants.
