Artists' residencies are a way of anchoring creative work in a given area, responding to a range of issues: integrating the artist into the fabric of the urban or rural environment, responding to the precarious economic situation of artists, particularly emerging artists, and promoting different artistic disciplines. It fosters dialogue between heterogeneous groups: citizens, researchers, creators, the business world and the academic world, and is therefore an ideal tool for cross-communication. Artists' residencies are also a tool for reinventing modern cultural diplomacy and a key element in international artistic mobility.

Organization of the seminar:

This seminar is designed around the creative cycle: from the artist's idea to the production of the work and its distribution, through to the necessary resources, using a theoretical and practical approach, providing an overview of existing schemes, particularly for emerging artists.

Focusing on the Parisian scene, with an opening on the Marseilles scene, examples of artistic residency centres will be presented, as well as the different types of support on offer and calls for applications.
