The seminar »Architectural Design« will introduce conceptual approaches to spatial design in architecture. Focussing on a concrete example for the design of an existing inner courtyard in a central location of one of Berlin’s museums, we will study spatial formations which relate to the structure of the existing building and its courtyard design.

Basic skills of volumetric planning on an architectural scale will be introduced using physical modelling and manual sketching. In addition, we will work with references to the history of the building of the museum as well as architectural case studies.

The main material we are working with is spruce wood which has been affected by beetles and fungi and is thus a relatively fragile material. The main goal of the seminar is to build a 1:1 protoype and a scale model of the final design in cooperation with students of Technical University of Berlin (TUB).

Classes will take place on Wednesdays between 16.10.2025 and 12.02.2025 from 10.00 till 12.00 and can be elected by students of Textile and Material Design at Weißensee School of Art and Design Berlin (KHB). The room will be announced upon registration to the seminar. There are no prior skills required for participation.
